I started working with dogs in 2012; first as a kennel assistant, then in a rescue centre, and finally as Assistant Manager of a boarding kennels. During this time, I learnt to work with all dog breeds, personalities and temperaments, including some challenging behavioural issues.
I grew up with animals and loved being around them, but I decided I also wanted to learn more about how and why they do what they do: to understand the mechanics behind the behaviour. So I started studying for my BSc(Hons) Animal Behaviour degree and graduated in 2015. I then assisted with local dog and puppy training classes for several years run by a certified APBC pet behaviourist - I found it eye-opening and fascinating!
I now offer 121 private dog training for a variety of issues, and training classes for puppies and beginners. I have trained with the APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers UK) and IMDT (Institute of Modern Dog Trainers) and use only modern science-based positive reinforcement training methods which are all force-free. I like to watch dogs figuring things out for themselves - that's when the real learning takes place!
Until recently, I was also a dog walker for 3 years - watching unlikely friendships blossom, personalities emerge & confidence grow was amazing. Alongside my work with dogs, I also worked as an Animal Keeper at a local wildlife centre and had some amazing years caring for otters, birds of prey and other wildlife. These experiences have helped to shape my animal knowledge and apply them to real-life situations.

Mavis is the newest addition to the New Tricks crew! She may only be young, but she's got real character and is super smart already. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for regular updates on her progress as I teach her all I know!
* In memory of our dearest Bella *
In 2017 I rehomed Bella, an older dog at 7yrs young: she was gentle, cheeky and funny and above all, the most absolutely brilliant dog. Even towards the end of her life, at the grand old age of 13, she had a zest for life and always had boundless amounts of enthusiasm.
Bella continuously amazed me with her willingness to participate in new training and, although her health declined in her final months, she still thoroughly enjoyed joining in the fun on group walks & making lots of new friends.
Bella never failed to make everyone smile and showed that it really is never too late to learn ‘new tricks’. She changed my perception of life & enlightened me in the complex struggles of communicating with another non-human being. Through our journey together, although short & sweet, I learnt so much. I now aim to help my clients (both human & canine) with the knowledge only a great dog can teach you.
